Washington DC South: Week 62: October 26, 2015w

I wrote a letter and then it got deleted. Sorry. We rode out
bikes 30 miles to DC today and got free tickets to the tops of the
Washington monument... My legs cramped up once we got into DC. Sorry.

Hey family,
What was everyone's reaction to Dan going to Atlanta? (Daniel Frew received his mission call to: Atlanta Georgia North Mission: January 20th) 
That's really close to where Derek and holli isn't it?  I really didn't think he was going to stay in the states.

So this weekend I went down to Mount Vernon and saw Tony Clements baptize his daughter Austyn. It was really good to go back and see all the ward memebers and just being in the area. Elder Oyler is serving there too, so we got to go to lunch with him before the baptism. 

Chris and Mellisa came to church again for the fourth time counting conference. Chris probably won't be able go get baptized anytime soon  because of legal issues but he would be as soon as it gets cleared up. Melissa also is ready to be baptized. Except she wanted to do it the same day as Chris but that would be way down the road. We really want her to get baptized first so that she can encourage and give him motivation for when he gets cleared. We were able to find a super good family to fellowship them though. The family has a band and Chris and Mellisa are hard core rock lovers and players. Other than that we didn't have too much going on. We really need to go find more people other than Chris and Mellisa to work with.

I've got two of the essay done already and im working on the third. Sanjay has been helping me out alot which is great. Were probably going to play some golf this afternoon and then go to some outlet malls in Lessburg for our PDay activity.

Washington DC South Mission: Week 60: October 12, 2015

Hi Family; 

 I don't have a lot of time to write today. We went fishing this
morning and I got a good bass. But other than that all I got was a
bunch of moss. 

Chris and Mellisa came to church along with a few other
less actives that we've been working with. Chris and Mellisa are going
through some rough patches. Trying to quit a few addictions.

We had a really crappy day this week. We did a church swap with a
potential investigator on Saturday. We showed up after driving 25
miles one way and his stupid pastor wouldn't  let us in. He railed on us
for being false prophets. I guess according to him the sabbath is
suppose to be Saturday and not Sunday. I was super ticked. I didn't
handle the situation very well so I felt bad about that mostly, but it
also wasted a lot of our time and miles.

Read Romans 12:4 (For as we have many members in one body, and
all members have not the same office)  I should have been better ha ha.

Also thank you for the two packages. Unfortunately I ate the 5 packs
of beef jerky already. I guess Russia is where Dano is going on his mission.

Washington DC South Mission: Week 59: October 5, 2015

Hey family,

So we had a really good week here in Ashburn. I've been thinking recently how blessed I am to be able to serve on a mission here in DC. I have  a really nice apartment, car, and gym to workout in...I have a really good companion, we have two super solid progressing investigators, the ward is awesome. I'm around other missionaries that are really cool and fun to work with. The list goes on and on. As much as I've wanted for my mission to go by fast and be over, I've thought about how sad it's going to be for me when I have to give it all up and go back to normal life. The experiences that I've had and the relationships I've had are priceless. Ya sometimes its really hard but its also extremely rewarding.

So about the week. I don't know if we told you about Chris and Mellisa yet. So last week we had a referral in the area book for them so we stopped by. They let us right in and said we could come back. Long story short we've had like 8 lessons with them in the last 10 days or so. Teaching them the the first 3 lessons and reading the B.O.M with them too. They are really wanting to be baptized but need to overcome somethings first.

We watched conference with them in their really nice theatre room. Chris is a hard core rocker ha ha. Literally. I guess he is in a punk rock band and Mellisa loves that stuff too. They are engaged right now and are wanting to live the Mormon lifestyle after seeing the downsides to a worldly lifestyle. Chris has had alot of LDS involvement with EFY in Cape Verde. That's a little about them. Chris came to church last week and Mellisa is coming next Sunday. She is already trying to get work off on Sundays too(we had not even said anything about it yet). 

Chris was praying one night for something he could rely on and a week later we ended up knocking on his door. There's other cool things that have happened but I can't really remember right now. All you need to know is that they are super solid and super cool. 

We also had MLC this week which is the mission leadership council.

Washington DC South Mission: Week 58: September 28, 2015

So Ashburn has been great area. This week Sister Anderson from Potomac
crossing ward took us out to lunch at light foots. We also had dinner with
the Caninganis who are in Goose Creek the neighboring Ward.... We also
got set up big time this week. So we had a Referral from some elders to
try a guy named Shaun. We text ed him and he gave us an address to to
come by and have a lesson. So we plug the address in and it's in some
rehab facility. We showed up and met the guy. He was like 20 and pretty
different. He told us his church service was going on right now but we
could talk afterward. So after the service was over everyone in his
congregation came and questioned us. It wasn't too bad. They kinda
just wasted are night. We did get a few people who were actually
interest though ha ha. Afterward the guy was like "I hope you don't
feel like I set you up". They did invite us back. So we're going to go
 back just to recruit people.

Anyways we did find some super solid people this week. We found a
couple named Chris and Melissa. He's 20 and she's 18. They're engaged
and have kind of had some rough years behind them... So we had two
lessons with them this week and Chris came to church! It was my first
person at sacrament meeting in over 4 and half months. So we should be
able to work with them. It's so nice to have someone solid to work
with. We also found some other good people that seem to have some good
potential.

We've had some funnies stories already with new threesome companionship. Elder
Anderson sprayed cologne in my eyes on accident this week.He's smashed the car door
 into 3 card doors already, and a shopping cart holder. But it's all good. Today
for pday we played football.

Washington DC South Mission: Week 57: September 21,2015

Hey family,

 So transfers were this week, and I got what I wanted for

 my birthday. I'm finally out of Burke and back up in Loudon county.

 I'm now serving in the Ashburn Ward with Elder Severe and Elder

 Anderson. Elder Severe and I are the Zone leaders for the Ashburn zone

which is pretty cool. We have a nice Subaru and a legit apartment

 complex. We will more than likely stay at  together for at least two transfers.

 I got to see some people from my old ward in Potomac Crossing already.

 Which has been sweet. Elder severe is awesome. 

 There are three of us here in Ashburn because President Huntsman didn't

 want to white wash( two new elders in an area) so Elder Anderson

 stayed. But really  alot of other elders that have been here have

 literally done nothing. The people in the area haven't been contacted 

 in months. So we are pretty much starting from scratch here. 

 But it's good because Elder Severe and I can get the area back in shape.

 Elder Severe is a really good missionary to. I'm super excited to be his companion.

 My birthday was kinda lame. Elder Severe made me pancakes which was nice and

 I got a bunch of phone calls from people calling and singing happy birthday.

 But two members from my old ward are going to have me over this week to celebrate.

 When we first came into the apartment the place was a wreck. We literally threw

 bags and bags of trash and crap away. It was pretty ridiculous because it's the

 nicest apartment in the mission. But we cleaned it up and threw all the garbage

 out so now it's not bad at all. I'm really excited to be in the Ashburn Ward. The members

 seem really good and I think we should have a lot of success while

 we're here. I haven't gotten any birthday gifts yet. But if you are sending something for my bday

 I need some gift cards. I ran out of money the second week of the Month. So I've been

 scraping the bottom of the barrel. So that be nice.

WEEK 56: WASHINGTON DC SOUTH MISSION: SEPTEMBER 14,2015

Hey family,

 This week is transfer week. After talking with President Huntsman at church Sunday it sounds that I'm probably going to leave Burke finally. I pretty much told the Zls, APs, and President that I needed out of Burke. It will be a good thing for me to leave. I have no faith in the area and I didn't like it here. Elder Burleson has a good chance of training when I leave even though he's only been here for 6 weeks. He's ready for it. He's a really good missionary. I really didn't even have to do anything. I probably learned more from him too.

Today for pday we are going into DC for a little bit. We got a car to use just for the week until transfers come and then we have to give it back. I don't really care though because I'm leaving the area. I went on exchanges with the APs which was a lot of fun. We went street contacting at George Mason University. 

Yesterday we worked at a booth for the Burke center festival. It was a little family history booth that we just talked to people about if they were interested in. It was actually pretty fun. It was a super nice day and it was good to have a change of pace. There were a bunch of mascot costumes of cartoons like sponge bob and the ninja turtles. I was only able to get a picture with he George Mason Mascot unfortunately. 

Next week I should have a new area and a new companion which will be good for me. It's really weird that I'm already 20. It kind of scares me. I'm already like 1/4 done with my life. If you want to send some stuff for my bday you can send jerky and gift cards. I have 11 dollars to live off for the next month because I spent 60 bucks on protein and somehow,blew it all in less than two weeks. Just send healthy stuff.
